One of my favorite things about cask beer is that it gives brewers a little room to have fun with their beer and tweak it a bit. A brewer will often add an ingredient to the beer while it re-ferments in the cask (this process is called dry-hopping), it’s often as simple as adding a different strain of hops to the brew to tweak the flavor profile a little. Although sometimes they get really inventive and add bourbon-soaked oak chips, cocoa nibs, coffee beans, or sometimes even chile peppers. Super fun, right!
This Friday at 5 we are going to be tapping a cask of Ballast Point’s award winning Sculpin IPA dry hopped with Citra hops. Citra hops are very bright with a lemony like citrus profile. I can’t wait to try out one of my favorite beers dry-hopped with this amazing hop varietal.
Come by and try some Sculpin on cask. See you this weekend.
